The climate of the region is especially suited to the cultivation of root crop vegetables such as sweet potato, burdock, Japanese white radish and carrots. Aomori prefecture is the largest producer of Chinese yams in Japan, and these yams are known as a special agricultural product of Rokkasho, to the extent that the Village has its own factory producing a popular spirit distilled from Chinese yam. |

Marine produce is abundant due to the warm and cold currents mixing in the coastal waters of Rokkasho. Different varieties of squid, mackerel, and salmon are caught from summer until winter, while in the many lakes and marshes surrounding Rokkasho, salmon, trout and minnows are caught on their way from the ocean. Shijimi clams and Wakasagi fish can be found in the Takase River and Lake Ogawara. High quality sea urchin and abalone are harvested in the coastal Tomari area, which abounds with kelp and wakame seaweed .
